For many women, the first visit to our center is to take a pregnancy test. During this appointment you will:
Meet with a trained client advocate who will listen to your individual concerns
- Complete a series of intake questions and talk to your advocate about your situation
- Receive instructions on performing your own urine pregnancy test*
- Get the results within 5 minutes
- Consider the future with someone who cares about you and will offer emotional and practical support
If your pregnancy test is positive, your advocate will take time to talk with you about your personal situation and provide information which will help you make a plan for your pregnancy. You will have the opportunity to:
- Explore the pros and cons of all your options
- Take all the time needed to ask whatever questions you have
- Learn about the development of your baby
- Learn about the network of community resources and referrals available to you.
* Our pregnancy tests will detect as little as 10 mlU/hCG (unit of measuring human chorionic gonadotropin – the hormone which your body produces during pregnancy), compared to over the counter tests which may only detect between 25 and 100 mlU. This means that our tests have more sensitivity and will be more likely to detect a pregnancy earlier. While Choices’ pregnancy tests are generally 98-99% accurate within 7-10 days after conception, this is only a test for the presence of the pregnancy hormone. We recommend a follow-up test with a physician, as only a licensed physician can diagnose pregnancy.
